Changing license plates to hinder the identification of a stolen car is of little use if the vehicle is equipped with a monitoring system. This is confirmed by the recovery operation of an Alfa Romeo Giulia.
The Giulia was stolen at night from outside a hospital in Sosnowiec. We became aware that something suspicious was happening thanks to an alert from the monitoring system, which reported GPS/GSM signal interference. For us, that’s always an indication of a potential use of a signal jammer by thieves.
Immediately after the alerts appeared, we were unable to reach the vehicle’s owner. It wasn’t until the morning that he reported the theft to the Gannet Guard Systems Monitoring Center and went to file a report with the police. While he was doing that, our team located the Alfa parked near an allotment garden in Dąbrowa Górnicza. The license plates had been swapped to make identification more difficult. It turned out they were from a previously stolen Porsche. Within twenty minutes, a team from the police criminal division arrived at the scene and secured the Giulia.
